Ekata Designs is a Memphis based Jewelry business that exists to provide employment, income and training to Refugees as they transition to their new lives in America. With so many different cultures represented in their business, they value unity in working together and that’s actually what “Ekata” means in Nepali.
There are currently 15.2 million refugees in the world. The vast majority of them are women and children. A refugee is someone who is forcibly displaced from their home by persecution, war, or natural disaster. They flee their home country often traveling for days in order to survive. Refugee camps, marked by thousands of tents or huts, meant as temporary solutions, become their “home” for years and even decades.
They are often not accepted into their new country. Returning home means great danger and persecution. Remaining in the camp is a hopeless, purposeless existence. As a result, many apply to be resettled to a new country hoping for a new life. This transition provides new opportunities and new hope but can also cause a great deal of stress. It is not easy to adapt in a new country with a new language, a new culture, a new way of transportation, a new type of job and education.
As you can imagine being a Refugee involves a lot of challenges but many Refugees also have incredible talents, wisdom, and passion. We love the partnership that occurs at Ekata. Ekata is able to provide women with employment & training as they share with us their incredible talents and culture.

With pieces handcrafted by survivors of modern-day slavery, Purpose Jewelry donates 100% of proceeds to benefit International Sanctuary, a non profit that provides holistic care for young women rescued from sex trafficking.
Purpose Jewelry represents hope, strength, and perseverance. When a girl escapes or is rescued from sex trafficking, she is forced to deal with trauma with very little support. With her lack of education and employable skills, her options are limited and the future seems hopeless. Through holistic care and empowerment, International Sanctuary works with survivors in Mumbai, India and Orange County, California, placing women in mentorship programs and providing them with education, medical care, counseling, and employment.
No longer defined by their past abuse, these women become skilled artisans who are building a bright future. Purpose Jewelry provides a safe and loving environment, where young women are free to laugh, grow, and be themselves.
